We’ve put together a handy guide to get you set up quickly in Radioplayer. As you know, the Radioplayer console is a browser-based application which is hosted by your station, so before you begin, you’ll need someone who knows their way around your website and has FTP access.
Before you begin
Before you begin, make sure…
- You’ve selected a streaming provider, have the streaming either set up or in progress, and know what your stream URLs will be. We’ve got some good resources here to help you.
- You’ve got someone on standby who is familiar with HTML, JavaScript and CSS. If you’ve got a web developer or webmaster who looks after your site, that would be perfect. If you’re running a Drupal, WordPress or Joomla site (or similar) that’s also fine but you should get in touch with whoever set it up for you.
- Your web person has got FTP access to your website.
- Make sure you’ve sent Radioplayer the contact details of your station (incl. billing, tech, admin)
Get setup
It’s a four step process to get set up on Radioplayer. We’ve outlined the steps below and provided links to other articles where you can read more in depth.
Step 1 – Generate your Radioplayer console
The Radioplayer web player is a standalone browser-based media player which allows listeners to stream your content. Every station on Radioplayer needs to use the web console – it’s often the main reason for joining us. It’s usually hosted on the radio station’s website but we can provide hosting if required
- Login to the Station Control Panel with the credentials we sent you and locate the station whose console you want to build.
- Click Generate Console and then follow the steps in this article: Generate a console.
- Although simple to do, you might spend half an hour tweaking. At the end of it, you’ll get a zip file.
- Extract the zip and upload it to your server. Identify the URL of the index.html file, check it works in a browser. If we’re hosting the console for you, the process is slightly different. See here for advice.
Step 2 – Create your station profile
- Login to the Station Control Panel and fill out your station profile. Take a moment to read our advice here. Changes here aren’t immediate – they go into a queue for Radioplayer approval, so if you can, try to group your updates into as few as possible as don’t resubmit the same request multiple times. We check all requests as quickly as possible but at busy times, you may have to wait a day or so.
- Crop your logo into the following sizes:
Radioplayer systems can take a high resolution station logo from you and automatically crop it as part of completing your station profile. But if you want to manually create images, you need the following:
74(w) x 41(h),
86×48,
288×162 and
160×90. - Log back in to the Station Control Panel, edit your station profile and on the Audio tab there’s a section that says Your Player where you can insert the URL of your console.
- If you have some mobile streams available, you need to also update the fields under Primary mobile stream and optionally High quality stream. More information about setting up mobile streams here and here.
- Save and submit your station data change request
Just so you know – you’ll get an email to say we’ve approved the changes but until you’ve completed our joining process, your station won’t be live on the platform
Step 3 – Submit the station for testing
If you’re happy with your console, and happy it’s working well, the next thing to do is tell us so we can complete our final checks and put you live. You do that by emailing station support. As luck would have it, there’s a link on this page on the right where you can also email a request in.
Tell us the name of the station you want us to check and if there’s a particular date or time the console should go live, then let us know (1-2 working days notice). Otherwise we’ll put your station live as soon as it’s passed the checks.
Step 4 – Make Radioplayer available to your listeners
Once you’re live, we’ll send you some useful links including the Button Generator which lets you add the all-important Listen Live button to your homepage. You can also look at customising your content space.
